2022 Hyundai Venue Review | New Limited Trim
When searching for a good car that won’t break your budget, the 2022 Hyundai Venue is the perfect place to start. Not only is it affordable, it has low ownership costs and comes loaded with the most modern essentials.
This model has won awards, surprised automotive critics, and pleased buyers since it was introduced in 2020. Where the 2021 Hyundai Venue was a good buy, the 2022 model year is even better. Keep scrolling to find the details that are important to your ownership experience.
Value and Price
As the Cars website noted, the Hyundai crossover costs 43 percent less than the average vehicle today. They gave it their Best Value Vehicle Award. US News and World Report announced the crossover was a finalist for their 2022 Best Subcompact for the Money
The Venue SE price is $19,000 MSRP. Earning every penny, the base package has many high tech features including a large touch screen, important smartphone connectivity, and crash avoidance systems. SEL value packages start at just $21,995. Limited trims have an MSRP of $23,495, still quite affordable for most budgets. (Please note that supply may influence pricing of all vehicles in the current marketplace.)
Ownership Costs and Reliability
The Venue price may be what attracts shoppers, but it’s the low ownership costs that really make them happy in the long run. In 2020 and 2021, the subcompact crossover earned Kelley Blue Book’s 5-Year Cost to Own Award, and it has followed that up with a win for 2022. It also earned 2022 Consumer Guide Best Buy.
According to EPA estimates, fuel economy is 31 mpg combined, keeping costs down. The long Hyundai warranties put a bow on the package.
Those same warranties should reassure savvy buyers that the Venue is a reliable vehicle with a long road life ahead. To ensure that, Hyundai offers up to 3 years/36,000 miles of scheduled maintenance.
Size and Specs
The small exterior hides a roomy 91.9-cubic foot cabin. There’s good legroom for passengers, and the driver has an elevated seating position. Seats are comfortable and well-cushioned.
A 2-stage cargo floor helps the owner make the most of the large 19-cubic foot cargo hold. Split-fold rear seats allow for several configurations of cargo and passengers. With the rear bench folded, cargo space measures almost 32 cubic feet.
Adding utility, a secret storage compartment is included with the SEL trim. The available roof rails can handle up to 175 pounds when properly equipped.
Cockpit Standards
Drivers will find it easy to get comfortable. The cockpit has a tilt-telescopic steering wheel and a sliding, six-way adjustable driver’s chair. When parked, the driver can recline and take a break in the air conditioned cabin.
Bluetooth makes it easy to connect without taking your eyes off the road. Steering wheel duplicate buttons put important functions under the driver’s fingertips. A TFT instrument cluster provides driver information while the 8-inch touchscreen has infotainment menus.
Standard Touchscreen Technology
The 8-inch touch screen is complemented by a four-speaker audio system and HD Radio. A USB port lets you charge your phone or utilize line-in capabilities.
Drivers will appreciate the convenience of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. These connectivity systems work with the driver’s smartphone and place favorite apps on the touchscreen menu. This makes it possible to use voice recognition with more functions. Google Maps, Apple Maps or similar navigational tools can send maps to the screen and provide audible turn by turn directions.
Trim Levels
Trim levels are SE SEL and Limited. The advanced driver’s cockpit with its full technology is a major standard on the SE trim. It also has standard cruise control and several crash avoidance systems. As previously stated, this base edition is especially well-equipped for its low price.
Stepping up to the SEL, Hyundai provides even more value for the money. Drivers will appreciate the soft touch of leather upholstery on the steering wheel and shift knob. An upgraded sliding armrest comes with a helpful storage console.
More conveniences assist the 2022 Venue driver, including automatic air conditioning controls. You can set the temperature and the climate controls will do the rest. An additional USB charger is on the dash, and the cabin has two more speakers for more surround sound.
New Limited Trim Level
The Venue Limited edition is a well-dressed, high-tech choice. Push button start is added to the cockpit. Satellite navigation is added to the upgraded infotainment system. SiriusXM connectivity gives you the option of satellite radio.
The Blue Link system offers owner benefits. With a subscription, you’ll have a WiFi hotspot for your smartphone, tablet, and laptop.
Venue Colors and Trim-Specific Exterior Details
Venue colors sound as interesting as they are. Black Noir Pearl, Ceramic White, and Stellar Silver may be more traditional, but they look great on the Venue. If you prefer a car with an obvious personality, Hyundai offers Green Apple, Intense Blue, and Scarlet Red Pearl.
SE models come with automatic high beams. This feature, which isn’t standard on many higher priced models, allows the subcompact SUV driver to focus on driving while the car changes the headlights from low to high as needed.
SEL models wear bigger alloy wheels and boast a sunroof. Roof rails are also standard. With Limited models, you can add an accent roof and give the Venue a more athletic look. Heated side mirrors are designed to remove moisture fast. LED headlights provide the best view as well as a modern light signature.
Performance and Handling
The small car was designed to fit into smaller spaces. It doesn’t have a hard time maneuvering in busy highway traffic, crowded campuses, or busy parking garages. The turning diameter is a sharp 16.6 feet.
Its size also allows it to keep the curb weight down. This allows the driver to enjoy an excellent weight-to-horsepower ratio from the four-cylinder engine. A continuously variable automatic transmission controls 121 horsepower. The SEL and Limited have a snow mode for slippery roads.
Fuel economy is 29 miles per gallon in the city, exceeding the average by as much as 7 miles per gallon. On the highway, it earns 33 miles per gallon. This allows it to claim 31 miles per gallon combined. The fuel economy website calculates a fuel savings of $1500 during the first five years of ownership.
Driver Assistance and Crash Avoidance
Today’s technology can give drivers the ability to avoid crash scenarios. That’s what Hyundai intended by making a forward collision warning standard. The intelligent system knows when to trigger automatic emergency braking.
Preventing common side crash scenarios, the 2022 Venue has a lane departure warning and a lane keeping assist. There’s even more protection with the addition of a blind spot collision warning on the SEL trim.
The standard rearview camera is an essential aid for parking. SEL models add a rear cross traffic alert to reduce parking lot dangers.
Safety Features
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has tested the crossover and given it a Top Safety Pick Award. Scoring good across all categories, the Venue is one of 9 Hyundais with the Top Safety Pick or Pick-Plus Award.
For families and other caregivers, there are full LATCH attachments for two car seats on the second row as well as child safety locks.
With a driver attention warning, Hyundai seeks to aid the busy driver. Commuters, parents, and many others can become distracted and that can be dangerous. Audible and visual cues are designed to warn the driver before distractions lead to a crash scenario.
Venue vs Kona Comparison
How is the Venue different from the 2022 Hyundai Kona? The 2022 Hyundai Venues tends to save money over the cost of the Kona, although there is some overlap. The two Hyundais have the same driver assistance and high-tech dash features on the base models. Ownership costs are similar since the two vehicles have good gas mileage and the industry’s longest warranties.
The Kona is slightly bigger than the Venue, and it offers more cargo space. While the Venue is strictly a front wheel drive crossover, Konas offer the option of all-wheel drive, an N-Line or N trim edition, and an all-electric model.
If you want to compare the Venue trim levels side by side, you can do that at your Phoenix AZ Hyundai dealer. Take a look at what is available now in our inventory.
