Tucson Hybrid vs Plug In Hybrid Performance
Since the Tucson PHEV has extra horsepower, it has the fastest engine in the lineup. However, the Tucson Hybrid is quite speedy. It shares the same level of torque with the PHEV.
This thrust is automatic since it comes from the electric motors. You have to drive the HEV or PHEV to know how much more fun it is to take one of these green machines from 0 to 60 mph.
Then there’s the savings you can realize over time by choosing a hybrid or plug in. Tucson Hybrids are predicted to save about $500 every year. Plug in Hybrids are predicted to save around $800 per year. That’s either $2500 or $4000 in a five-year span.
The Hybrid has a longer gas-powered driving range. However, PHEV models have an electric-only range of 33 miles. For many, that allows them to drive electric all day. The gas-hybrid powertrain ensures that this plug in electric vehicle can go up to 400 miles.
HEV: 227 horsepower
PHEV: 261 horsepower
HEV/PHEV: 258 lb-ft of torque
HEV Gas Mileage: 38/38 mpg or 37/36 mpg
HEV Range: 521 mi(FWD), 507 mi (AWD)
PHEV Mileage: 35 mpg, 80 mpge
PHEV Range: 33 mi (Electric only), 420 mi (Gas/Electric)
Gas Powered Models
If you are good with front-wheel drive, you’ll find the gas models are enough for you. However, you can get HTRAC AWD as an option. Your drivetrain choice affects ground clearance, which is 7.1 inches with two-wheel drive and rises to 8.3 inches with all-wheel drive.
Gas-powered Tucsons get good fuel economy for their size. Highway mpg is 32 with a front-wheel drivetrain. With 187 horses under the hood, drivers will always feel confident.
Standard: 187 horsepower, 177 lb-ft
Tow Rating: 2,000 lbs
Standard FWD: 25/32 mpg city/highway
Ground Clearance: 7.1 in (8.3 in AWD)
Hybrid vs Gas Driver Assistance
Whether you buy the least expensive Tucson or the most expensive, you get an incredible standard suite of driver assistance. It can be summarized like this:
Emergency Autobrake: forward collision dangers, pedestrians, cyclists
Steering Assist: lane keeping, blind spot monitoring
Steering Assist/Autobrake: Junction turning
Rear Autobrake: rear cross traffic alert
Alerts: All of the above, driver inattention
Cruise Control: Standard Adaptive (Curve Control Advanced)
Semi-autonomous: Available Highway Driving Assist, Available Remote Smart Parking
Camera Monitoring: Available blind spot camera, available 360-degree camera
Adding to your peace of mind, the Tucson has the longest warranties available. This includes the 5-year/60,000-mile limited warranty and the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
Now that you know more about this exciting new SUV, you are invited to schedule a test drive.
