2024 Hyundai Elantra Review - New Hybrid and Elantra N Models Explained
With a new style inside and out, the 2024 Hyundai Elantra has been refreshed for the new model year. There’s more technology across the lineup, including standard WiFi availability. It also drove away with a 2024 Top Safety Pick, earning this honor in a year that the IIHS has toughed its standards.
This new car review covers the all new Elantra Hybrid and speedy Elantra N models as well as the gas-powered Hyundai sedan. Get all the details on this new model year and discover if this small sedan can match your biggest requirements.
Aggressive, Aerodynamic and Modern
A new shark nose marks the 2024 Hyundai Elantra as different from its predecessors. There's even a cool note of personalization with the body-color center element of the two-piece grille.
To bring the style together, it wears a new front fascia, new front fenders, and distinctive headlights. Car and Driver calls the new look dramatic, handsome and sharply styled.
Also wearing a new fascia, the rear has a cool U-shaped silver accent on the new diffuser. Sides look different with a range of new wheels and special C-Pillars. Limited and N-Line trims take on new elements in line with their luxurious or sporty attitude.
Exterior colors are changing, too. The newest options include Ultimate Red, previously limited to the 2023 Elantra N. Other new colors include Amazon Gray and Ecotonic Gray.
2024 Elantra N models have a new exclusive called Exotic Green. This sport model has a trim-specific grille and distinctive fascia on its shark nose.
Curb appeal continues along the side with special side sills and large forged alloy wheels. From the back, this sport model wears dual exhaust pipes and an aerodynamic wing spoiler.
Standard Trim Levels: Performance and Features
The SE, SEL and Limited trims have an inline four-cylinder powertrain. Extremely efficient, output is 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. Commuters will love the car's pickup while their wallets will appreciate the excellent gas mileage.
SE interiors come packed with key tech toys such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The cockpit has an 8-inch touchscreen, a 4.2-inch driver display and USB-C outlets. Hyundai includes a cargo management system and a 60/40 split rear seat to assist with hauling gear.
Kelley Blue Book notes the futuristic look of the cabin. The cockpit is clearly defined by the way the dash and console wrap around the driver. On the other hand, designers chose a more minimalistic approach for the front passenger side, creating a more defined space for both positions.
Stepping up this year, the SEL cockpit has gained a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen. This gives drivers more ways to configure the views they need. It improves voice recognition, too. All 2024 Elantra sedans are now equipped for WiFi, providing connectivity for your smart devices with a subscription.
2024 Elantra Limited models now have H Tex leather upholstery for an even more upscale look, a surprise in this inexpensive car. Better equipped than ever, this trim level has the Hyundai advanced blind spot monitor. Drivers can turn on this camera system to get a live video image on their screen. It is sure to help the Elantra stay out of harm's way.
Parking is easier with front and rear sensors to alert the driver to possible dangers. The surround view camera shows the driver everything that is close to the vehicle. This could be a post, tree branch, tricycle, curb or anything else that needs to be avoided.
Elantra N-Line vs Elantra N: Performance and Features
Sporty and speedy, the 2024 Hyundai Elantra N-Line has a 201-horsepower turbo. This smart engine produces 195 lb-ft of torque for fast getaways. Like the regular engine, the N-Line has a front-wheel drivetrain and automatic transmission.
New for 2024, the N-Line has special sporty accents inside and out. There's more technology and entertainment, too. Music sounds so good on the new Bose Premium Audio system.
2024 Elantra N models are powered by a 276-horsepower Flat Power direct injected engine that generates 289 lb-ft of torque. Shoppers choose between a fun manual transmission and a convenient automatic transmission.
For the 2024 model year, it has special N upgrades aimed at improving body control and damping while preventing vibrations and unnecessary friction. ECS hardware and motor-driven power steering software are tweaked for more precision.
Engineers added new engine mount membranes, reinforced the G bushings and improved the suspension. Optimizing the front end load, they increased tire pressure to 36 front and 34 rear PSI.
The interior has illuminated N logos on its bucket seats. A revised sport steering wheel and shift knob lend sporty new look to the cockpit. However, it is the redesigned instrument cluster that really makes it stand out. This 10.3 digital gauge display replaces the smaller driver screen.
Elantra Hybrid Blue and Limited: Performance and Trim Levels
The Elantra electric hybrid powertrain never needs to be plugged in. Output for this hybrid is 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.
Saving you big bucks, Elantra Hybrid Blue fuel economy is estimated at 54 mpg combined. Elantra Hybrid Limited models earn 50 mpg combined.
These Hyundai hybrid sedans use regular unleaded gas to keep costs down. Blue models are estimated to require only $1.67 in gas for 25 miles while Limited models need only $1.80 for that same distance. This helps the two save $4,750 (Blue) or $4,250 (Limited) over a five year span, compared to average vehicles.
With features drawn from both the SE and SEL, the Hybrid Blue represents a good value as a car not just as a hybrid. The latest dash tech and driver assistance ensures your hybrid driving experience is extremely contemporary.
The Hybrid Limited has upscale leather fabric on its heated and ventilated seats. There are more advanced driver aids, including rear park assist.
Best of all, these Hyundai hybrids don't lose space because of their battery pack. They remain spacious. You can compare them to the Toyota Prius and see just how much bigger these cabins really are.
2024 Elantras by the Numbers
When it comes to compact cars, the Elantra is quite spacious. The second row is big enough for commuters or kids. It has 38 inches of rear legroom. You'll find many small SUVs with less space than that. In this way, the compact sedan is as accommodating as a midsize, writes Kelley Blue Book in its 2024 Elantra review.
As for the trunk, the area measures 14.2 cubic feet. This is another aspect that is better than many rivals. For instance, the Mazda 3 has only 13.2 cubic feet of space in its trunk. The Elantra second row can fold truly flat. This gives you a bigger space when you need more length and width for cargo.
Standard fuel economy is 33/42 mpg in city/highway driving. The N-Line trim level manages an efficient 28 mpg city and 36 mpg highway with its turbo engine.
Even the Elantra N earns an efficient 31 mpg with the manual transmission or 30 mpg with the automatic. Some models have stop-start tech to reduce fuel use at redlights and in drive-throughs.
Hybrid Blue models earn 53 mpg city and 56 mpg highway. That gives them a driving range of 594 miles, according to the US DOE fuel calculator. Meanwhile, the Hybrid Limited models have a driving range of 550 miles. Fuel economy is 49 mpg city and 52 mpg highway.
Elantra prices continue to be affordable. As Kelley Blue Book notes in its review, big rivals like the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and Subaru Impreza tend to cost more.

Parenting Aids
As a comfortable small sedan with great gas mileage, the Elantra appeals to many parents. The cars are ready to be the family taxi to school, work and play.
Parents will appreciate new 2024 safety equipment that can keep their kids safer in an accident. The seat belt reminder now includes the back row. Even better, there are two more airbags with the addition of rear side-impact bags.
Furthermore, a rear occupant alert can sound to prompt the driver to check the back seat for kids or pets. It may even reach out via the Hyundai app.
A safe exit warning tries to keep everyone in the car when traffic is passing by. It locks the doors and prevents kids from stepping out too soon.
With the generous space in the second row, parents will find it easy to install car seats or to lift out sleeping children. LATCH attachments and second-row child locks add more protections.
Safety Aids and Driver Assistance
As mentioned, there are more airbags this model year. In addition, 2024 Elantra sedans have a cool haptic feedback feature on their steering wheels. This gives the driver a buzzing sensation at the same time they get audible and/or visible warnings.
Even better, this works with several different systems. You are less likely to encounter side-crash scenarios with the blind spot monitoring system and its lane keeping assist. If drivers miss the visual cues, they are sure to feel the steering wheel's warning to watch out.
Of course, the forward collision system with an alert and autobrake are standard. Some higher trims add Junction Turning for even more assistance. At night, there are automatic high beams to regulate light appropriately and safely.
Adaptive cruise control is definitely a favorite of Phoenix AZ commuters. The Hyundai system can slow, stop and go with traffic. Elantra drivers just set the speed and stay alert. There's even a lane centering assist to help with maintaining the car's trajectory.
Parking Aids
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra is prepared to help with parking. Not only does it have a rearview camera, but it has a rear cross-traffic alert. This driver aid watches for traffic headed from either side of the vehicle. It warns the driver about the danger. The new steering wheel can provide haptic feedback for this system, too.
For the 2024 model year, Elantra Limited trim models have even more ways to protect the car when parking .A rear sensor detects cars and big objects. A forward sensor watches for vehicles and objects ahead during slow maneuvers .
Best of all, a surround view camera shows the Elantra Limited driver everything around the perimeter of the vehicle. This could be a person, bicycle, tree stump, curb or anything else that needs to be avoided.
Beyond the issue of safety, these parking aids help you avoid the dings and dents that affect the value of your car.
Reputation and Durability
Motor Trend calls the Elantra a “superbly executed compact sedan”. That's always a good start when it comes to how well a vehicle lasts. Edmunds praises the attractive pricing and long list of features.
If you intend to get the most out of your automotive purchase, warranty coverage is very important. Hyundai stands behind its compact sedan in a way that most rivals don't. This makes it a smarter buy at every price point when compared to the Subaru Crosstrek or Honda Civic.
Instead of 3-year coverage, the Hyundai limited warranty runs for up to 5 years or 60,000 miles. Instead of 5-year coverage, the Hyundai powertrain warranty runs for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles.
Furthermore, the Hyundai Elantra comes with three years of complimentary maintenance. Toyota Corollas cut offer their complimentary maintenance at the two-year mark. Rival Kia Forte doesn't offer this important benefit.
Since all 2024 Elantra models offer gas mileage going from good to better to best, you will find yourself saving money at the gas pump. Driver assistance should help the Elantra driver stay out of harm's way, helping to maintain the good looks and build integrity of the vehicle.
